Seeking God in the 21st Century is a three-year program that explores:
-
The Heart and Depths of the Christian Tradition
-
Christianity's Importance in a Post-modern and Pluralistic World
-
Spiritual Practice and Formation
-
The Radical Call of Christian Discipleship
SG21 provides an in-depth encounter with the Christian tradition and its place in a post-modern and pluralistic world and is intended for all who seek a deeper understanding and awareness of what it means to be Christian in the 21st Century. Each year is a stand-alone offering. We encourage participants to take these courses sequentially |

Year One – Shaking the Foundations: The Emergence of a New Christian Paradigm
A foundational course on the Christian tradition and theology.
Year One will provide an in-depth re-education for those seeking to explore the heart of the Christian tradition, its radical claims on our lives, and the challenging “good news” of the Christian message for the world. We will explore the historical setting of Jesus, the nature and study of the Bible, how concepts of God and Jesus shape our worldview and our understanding of discipleship. An introduction to spiritual practice is part of this program year. This course is a must for every Christian or seeker who wants to look afresh at the riches and depths of the Christian tradition. This class is taught by Dr. Marcus J. Borg and The Rev. Canon Marianne Wells Borg.

Year Three – Circle of Friends: Faces in the Well
This course will build upon experiences and curriculum of Year Two and focus on practice and community.
Year Three will build upon contemplative practices and “sacred conversation” introduced in Year Two. We will continue to explore and integrate our experiences of the presence of God in ourselves, in the everyday, and in community. In this year it is our hope we will come to know the significance and truth of St. Paul’s shimmering words: “And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed from one degree of glory to another, for this comes the Lord, the Spirit.” Our emphasis this year will be to live our lives, our practice, and our vocation for the common good. Co-led by Canon Marianne Borg, Khadim Chishti, and Jack Kennedy. |
